Revenue Act of 1964

Would any marxist democrat today follow JFK? Would JFK be even considered a democrat today?

President John F. Kennedy brought up the issue of tax reduction in his 1963 State of the Union address. His initial plan called for a $13.5 billion tax cut through a reduction of the top income tax rate from 91% to 65%, reduction of the bottom rate from 20% to 14%, and a reduction in the corporate tax rate from 52% to 47%.

The precursor of the address is here, Address to the Economic Club of New York, 14 December 1962: http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/Archives/JFKWHA-148.aspx

Description: Sound recording of President John F. Kennedy’s address to the Economic Club of New York at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. In his speech President Kennedy discusses the federal budget for 1964, the possibility of a tax deficit, and possible criteria for new tax legislation. The President also identifies three courses of action for the federal government to confront the country’s economic problems: improve education, expand civilian research and technology, and increase incentives for private expenditures.
