Tenochtitlan/Mexico city 1510 map

Mexico City is so big and keeps growing, so it is always amazing to see the drawings of what it was like when the Spaniards arrived in the early 1500's. This is a drawing of the lake system in the valley.

In 1524 Hernan Cortés sent this map of Tenochtitlan to the King of Spain. It is known as the Nuremberg Map.

This drawing shows the twin cities Tenochtitlan/ Xaltilolco, and the 5 causeways connecting them to the lakeside towns. Some still use the same name from over 600 years ago!
