No doubt missing from National Public Radio’s coverage of Awlaki’s death will be the November 1, 2001 report by Mara Liasson, where Awlaki is quoted in contrast to Osama bin Laden as one of the “moderates who want to solve the problems without violence” and someone who could “build bridges between Islam and the West”.
